Twenty-six members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Jigawa State have reportedly tested positive to Coronavirus.

The development was confirmed on Tuesday, December 15 in a statement by the state COVID-19 task force chairman and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health Dr. Salisu Mu’azu, Bibian Anekwe News understands.

Mu’azu following a stakeholders’ meeting in Dutse on Tuesday explained that 29 cases were confirmed in the state out of which 26 corps members.

He disclosed further that “fourteen corps members tested positive in the batch B stream I NYSC orientation camp, out of which eight are currently admitted while the remaining six have recovered and discharged.

“No fewer than eight COVID-19 patients are currently on admission at one of the isolation centres,” Mu’azu revealed.

The task force chairman added that another 15 out of 150 batch ‘B’ stream 2, NYSC corps members posted to Jigawa also tested positive for COVID-19.

Bibian Anekwe News learnt that the cases were confirmed following a compulsory test carried out on all corps members while entering the camp.

Mu’azu, however, expressed concern that there is every possibility that more cases will be recorded as the NYSC members continue to arrive at the camp. He noted that the government has ordered the immediate reopening of three state isolation centres after its closure in September due to zero cases recorded.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday evening, 14th December 2020, confirmed 201 new cases of Coronavirus disease infection in Nigeria.
