The Federal Government’s Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has warned churches against conducting Christmas carol services this year.

The warning was given by Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Speaking at the PTF weekly briefing, the NCDC DG listed “super spreaders” of COVID-19 as Christmas carols, traveling and other gatherings.

Ihekweazu said, “This is really to re-emphasise the call by the PTF that many of the traditional meetings that we engage in at this time of the year, whether they are Christmas carols or festivals, trips, family gatherings, each of those could end up being a super spreader event.

“So, we must take this into consideration as we make our choices.”

As the world grapples with the second-wave of the deadly virus, Nigeria has recorded a steady increase in its confirmed cases.

Bibian Anekwe News reports that the NCDC on Monday night announced one hundred and fourty-five new cases of COVID-19.

Lagos State again leads reported coronavirus cases with 49, while the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kaduna closely follows with 34 new cases.

Others are Plateau-11 Oyo-7 Bayelsa-5 Taraba-4 Sokoto-1 .

This brings the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Nigeria to 67,557.
