Gov Ugwuanyi And The Choice Of His Successor

The media space have been awash with permutations on who will succeed the incumbent Governor Ugwuanyi in office when his present term expires in May 2023. Some politicians interested in succeeding Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi have painfully gone to the extent of denying that there ever exists zoning of political offices in which they have been major beneficiaries while others have spoken openly to accept the fact of zoning. Yet, there are handful of others who could be described as the proverbial persons who wants to eat their cake and still have them. These are the group who believes that zoning of political offices is no longer desirable. These are self serving group of politicians we have in our state. How far could these desperate politicians go?. As these permutations are going on, some have gone ahead to buy nomination form for the governorship position under various political parties especially PDP even though the zoning arrangement of the party does not favour them. Rumour mongers and power drunk politicians did not stop there. They have gone ahead to almost dictate for Gov Ugwuanyi who will succeed him. They have come up with some unreasonable narratives as to why their choice candidate should succeed Gov.Ugwuanyi.

Be that as it may, the questions is; does Gov. Ugwuanyi has the right to choose who succeeds him. The answer is a capital YES. Gov Ugwuanyi has full right to choose whom he wants to succeed him. Enugu State has a long history of the incumbent Governor playing a major role in determining who replaces him in office since the emergence of the new democratic dispensation. In an instant, a sitting governor chose a candidate that was almost against the wish of the majority. His choice forced some party men out of the party. His candidate was not that popular to the people then, but the truth is that his candidate went ahead to win the party primaries and ended up winning the governorship sit.

Why are we stampeding Gov. Ugwuanyi into making a choice?. We should allow him to make his choice at his own time. What we should be doing now is to pray for him so that he will make the right choice.

On zoning, Ugwuanyi is a product of zoning and will never drop an arrangement that has made Enugu State envy of other states. Enugu State zoning arrangement have been applauded and is being copied and replicated in other states. Is it now that we are been made a reference point that we will drop what others are copying from us? Mbanu!

Zoning arrangement and micro zoning exists in Enugu. I have heard some commentators in some media houses in Enugu denying zoning arrangement just to favour their pay master. What will it profit them if they gain a loaf of bread and loose the bakery itself? That is the height of selfishness and short sightedness.

Gov Ugwuanyi is a faithful party man and will follow the party’s guidelines. If the party at the national level agrees there is a zoning arrangement within the party, why will it be denied at state level for selfish reasons.

Gov Ugwuanyi will definitely hand over to a qualified and competent hand to pilot the affairs of this great state.

His silence is not weakness nor naiveness. It is wisdom and maturity. Let us grow unto maturity to understand that what an old man can observe sitting down, though a child can climb to the highest mountain, he or she will never ever be able to understand.  Enugu State is really in the hand of God.
