Governor Ugwuanyi: A prudent manager of men and resources

It remains a herculean task today for most individuals, institutions and government to remain afloat in the face of excruciating economic meltdown largely occasioned by the dwindling resources on one hand and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic which greatly eroded the economic fortunes of most countries across the globe. But as they say, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
His Excellency, the governor of Enugu state has never left anyone in doubt as to his capacity and ability to steer the sheep of state in the face of daunting challenges. Enugu state is often regarded as a civil service state. And so from the earned responsibilities of taking care of the state workforce through payment of salaries and other extant welfare packages in a timely fashion, because a labourer deserve his/her wages to the execution of capital projects and other recurrent expenditures of the government, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi led administration has kept everyone wondering how he has been pulling all the positive stunts to keep the economy running.

We may not need to wonder too far. Governor Ugwuanyi we know came into leadership of Enugu State with a clear mindset to pull all the resources together to grow the economy of Ndi Enugu and establish her as an economic destination hub in the South East in particular and Nigeria in general. Ugwuanyi unlike his contemporaries, has remained largely humble as a public servant and refused to overreach himself in matters of governance by placing himself before competent and skilled aids and appointees to drive the economy.
What else could tumble even the most promising economy than the penchant for self aggrandisement and enrichment even in the face of dwindling resources. Contemporary leaders in our clime have found leadership positions as a viable platform to loot the common wealth for themselves, their families and their cronies that little or nothing would be left to keep the wheels of the state running. The result of such self enrichment is the accumulation of humongous wage bill, poorly or unexecuted projects and accumulation of recurrent expenditure bills.

History is replete with erstwhile chief Executives of various states where the economic wealth of their state was looted dry and such ill gotten accumulated wealth stashed away in foreign banking institutions. Today, Enugu state is having it so good because we have a leader who have refused to tow the part of ignominy by appropriating the common wealth to himself or cronies.
Governor Ugwuanyi unarguably has been committed to using the best hands to achieve set objectives of his administration. It is also important to underscore his commitment to supervise his appointees, relevant regulatory agencies and all those connected in one way or another to execute government policies in line with envisioned objectives.
It is also important to note that wastage has been a major bane of governments in up scaling economic growth. It is often wrongly believed that government business is no body’s business, but Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi led administration has remained tactful and frugal in the management of state’s scarce resources.

There are also other far reaching initiatives of the government of Ugwuanyi to grow and sustain economic growth such as what is happening with the Enugu SME centre where the wizardry of the youthful Arinze Chilo-Offiah is being brought to bear. Today with the establishment of small scale and medium Enterprises across the state under a level playing ground and relative ease of doing business, Enugu State economy cannot afford to be in comatose.
Governor Ugwuanyi must therefore be commended for his ultimate commitment and responsibility towards the prudent management of Ndi Enugu resources and socio-political economy.

Enugu State will forever remain in the hands of God.
