Ndi Enugu ~ Before the mother hen hatches

One of the most unique features of a fowl among other animals created by God to lay egg to begin the process of reproduction is the physical laying of egg. Even then, there is always that level of restlessness and excitement that attends the preparation for the laying of the eggs. I’m not sure if what makes the hen to fly up and down, makes a lot of noise is a combination of anxiety and fear at the prospects of recreating more of it’s kind or that it wants it’s owner to be aware that it is ready to reproduce more offsprings and therefore will require a tranquil and safe abode carved out to shield it from uncertain elements to enable it concentrate on the task.
When we were growing up, it is often an amusing site, yet a serious matter to see fowl owners especially the women folks engage in the task of preparing a suitable place whenever they noticed that their hen have become somewhat restless; a clear signal that it is getting ready to start the process of reproduction. Of course such prospects excites the fowl owner for the simple reason that she would reap the profit if she makes the hen comfortable and it is able to lay and hatch more eggs. Perhaps also, because they are women who reproduce themselves, they understand their type more than any other. Whatever the prospects of laying and hatching eggs appears to be, the hen is also reputed for it’s patience and diligently following God’s plan to birth new offsprings. Once it observes that the laying of eggs is over, it humbly goes into hibernation to sit over it’s eggs to be able to hatch them in accordance with God’s own plan. The final process is the hatching and leading out of the little chicks in the open which usually brings a sense of fulfillment on both the mother hen and the owner. The chicks in their innocence are often a delight to behold. One could often guess with measured precision which among the chicks are cocks or hen and even the ones that will provide good returns on investment. How is that possible? One may be tempted to ask. But it is not outrightly impossible to guess also.

I have attempted a metaphorical analogy of the mother hen, the process of reproduction and the prospects of hatching good offsprings for the soul objective of advancing creation to underscore the importance of allowing God’s plan to prevail in our political climate. The sky is thickening with dark clouds again, signaling signs of another rain fall. In 2015 and 2019 respectively the rain was caused to fall in due season and in the right place in Enugu land. The rain permeated the underground and caused the green vegetation of uncommon value to sprout up. This green vegetation has caused its foilage to provide shade from the strong shine and hot weather as well as the hard hitting rain water to millions of Ndi Enugu who decided to take cover under its ambient shoot. This vegetation turned oak tree was able to provide this uncommon peace among other goodies to the people simply because it relied on God’s guidance and intervention. For the good book says, do not lean on your wisdom or understanding but that of God to do all things. The tree planted by the river around the Lion Building was to draw its inspiration and strength from the all Powerful God who allowed things to remain relatively easy for the people of Enugu State.

Ndi Enugu it is important to ask ourselves this Germaine question. What is it like before 2015 in our polity and then from 2015 till date? Have we been able as a people to make appreciable progress in the area of socio-political and economic development? Have we been able to connect with the government of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who has been able to incorporate inclusion as one of the cardinal points of state policy? Have we pondered to ask what easily became of those who dared raise their word or voice against government policies and programs before Ifeanyichukwu came to Power?
Can we rightly situate those who are making mockery of the Governor for handing over the affairs of Enugu State to God in the likes of those Jews who preferred a common thief to be released to them than allowing Jesus to prevail?

These and more of these questions should be asked and attempt at answering them looming before us as we wait for the primary elections to elect various candidates standing for different political positions in 2023 general elections. It may not be a difficult task to unravel only if we look beyond our noses and pray earnestly for God’s plan to happen to Ndi Enugu just as it did in 2015 and 2019. At the last count, not fewer than 19 politicians of different hues and colorations have indicated their interest to take over the job of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi post 2023. I’m certain that those who would be saddled with the responsibility of giving these eminent men and women the teeth to advance further in their aspirations or the lack of it are watching and profiling them to determine their suitability for the job or task ahead. Of course, there is no denying the fact that some of them are charlatans or lacked the required moral principles to vie for elective positions. I’m equally certain that our good Governor who listens day and night to the concerns of the people to have a replica or someone close to the description of him and who holds the final ace to the determination of his successor will not disappoint the people. I’m concerned that we should not leave the mother hen to chance in the process of hatching it’s chicks but we should rather ask for God’s continued intervention and grace in the affairs of Ndi Enugu.

May God continue to bless and protect Ndi Enugu (a city founded and dwelling on a hill) from the charlatans. But let’s be confident that Enugu State is still in the hands of God and forever.
