For those who might not be too familiar with some settlements around Enugu urban, Ngevenu just like so many other settlements inhabited in the main by farmers who left their ancestral homes for subsistence farming in the rich loamy soil which God has blessed ndi Enugu with, but unlike these other settlements, Ngenevu is home to the Coal miners, supporting staff, their families and their dependants.
Ngenevu is a rural suburb of Coal Camp and bordered by old UNTH, Udi Siding and Bunker all in the Enugu urban. Till date, these suburbs are densely populated with the original inhabitants wallowing in want. It is really painful to observe that these settlements which are just a shouting distance from the Central Police Station situated near the Ogbete Main Market in Enugu could be lacking in basic social amenities and neglected by successive administration in the state until Mr Fulfilment appears on the stage and decides that the perennial neglect and wants of a set of people who gave their all to contribute to the economic advancement of this nation and by extension, the growth of her GDP is over. What an unsung humane persona, Rt. Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi!
It is important to stress that coal was among the main stay of the economy and no doubt contributed to the GDP of the Nigerian state and etched Enugu in the global map which later earned her the sobriquet, “The Coal city state”
In saner climes, ensuring general safety and welfare of workers who risk their lives daily to contribute to the nation’s economic growth is never an option but a necessity of government. But Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is a man of honour has the interests of the governed citizens at heart no matter where they may be located. It is to his credit that the rural urban migration has abated in the last six years courtesy of his massive infrastructural development and rural renewal policies.
Ugwuanyi is a man to be trusted. Ngenevu settlers has seen the worst of days while most politicians remember them when a major election is around the corner and they are only as good as the votes that could come out from them to advance their political conquest. For the people of Ngenevu, Ugwuanyi is a factor promised, sealed and delivered.
The infrastructural armaments in this suburbs has attracted unprecedented and massive influx of people with attendant increase in micro businesses, factories and other agro – allied industries. The inhabitants are now the major beneficiaries as they are directly and indirectly employed by the many businesses springing up in the area. The values of landed properties in these areas have also increased by over 500%. Academic and vocational schools is also springing up in these areas at a very fast pace. Ngenevu is sure smiling courtesy of Governor Ugwuanyi, the people’s Governor.
The former back waters of Ngenevu is steadily being transformed as a middle to high class settlement courtesy of Mr. Fulfilment’s intervention.
The inhabitants of this settlement in a bid to show appreciation to the people’s Governor organized a highly effective neighborhood watch to compliment the efforts of the regular security architecture. This move has in no small measure heightened the confidence of the settlers and increased their standards of living.
Of a truth, Enugu is in the hand of God and we can see it clearly.
