In Stephen Covey’s exact words, “what you do has far greater impact than what you say.” Leadership is not earmarked by juicy words dripping wet and cold from well coated lips, rather it is about action, it is about results, it is about projects started and completed, it is about problem solving. His Excellency, Rt Hon Ifeanyichukwu Lawrence, the grandson of Ugwuanyi’s led administration has practically brought all the words enumerated in my previous sentence to light. I wouldn’t want to bore you with a lengthy piece. Hence, I encourage you jump into the ride let’s visit some achievements of the present government ably led by the White Lion (Gburugburu Global) in the Lion Building (Enugu State Government House).
One of the most recent move of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi towards human capacity development and youth empowerment is the all-attainable 1,000 jobs announced on December 28, 2020.
One may want to ask the necessity or importance in recruiting 500 traffic officers and 500 officers in the state security apparatus called the Forest Guard. Some Enugu State residents never knew the importance of the Forest Guards until when miscreants hijacked the peaceful #EndSARS protest and turned it into a blood bathing sporting exercise and avenue to break banks, rob unsuspecting residents, and the mayhem which the hoodlums unleashed on government and private owned properties. Unfortunately, the blood sucking recalcitrant turned police officers to their prey whose life were meant to be sucked dry under the guise of #EndSARS. It took the state security apparatus (Forest Guard) to safe-guide life and property, quell the congested traffic on our major roads and restore sanity back to the state. Therefore, the recruitment of the 1,000 officers does not just give unemployment a heavy uppercut, it also strengthens the security in Enugu State and paves avenues for economic development, plus a wide possibilities for foreign investment. This is because, a secured state is an investment fertile soil.
This stage might not make much sense to some Enugu residents, especially, those who rarely visit other states like Kogi, but let it be on record that state of emergency was declared on all the schools in Enugu State during Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration. Do you know that the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, through the State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), besides over 800 schools already constructed, renovated and equipped with strong and modern learning facilities in both urban and rural areas, has commenced another phase of building and reconstruction of over 200 modern classroom blocks, to be equipped with the modern day state of the art learning facilities, for the enhancement of standard education in the state? Have you seen what our Governor meant when he said that Enugu State is in the hands of God?
If I continue this adventure, I might end up creating an anthology out of Governor Ugwuanyi’s achievements (so far) without successfully having the already innumerable projects duly encapsulated just in one article. But, next time you want to ask, “what has he achieved?”, visit the rural areas to see how the current administration has succeeded in transforming them into rapidly developing urban centres. Ask public servants and civil servants in the state, they will tell you that Governor Ugwuanyi does not just pay salaries on time, the man with a father-like heart pays even 13th month salaries.
Have you paid a visit to the new face of Enugu State Unity park, facing Michael Okpara Square lately? This should be among the least to be mentioned, but, I need the world know that we have a governor who is also interested tourism, aside, road construction this and that. Enugu State Government of Rt Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has transformed what used to be a scanty forest into a world class tourist attraction with the modern day state of the art facilities. I don’t want to start buttressing on how a revenue spinner and job creation rendezvous the new Enugu State Unity Park will amount to here. There are a lot to talk about this administration that even the strongest of detractors must attest to in order to avoid being seen as sadists or enemies of progress. But, permit me to end this article by citing Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook who said that “true leadership stems from individuality that is honestly and sometimes imperfectly expressed… Leaders should strive for authenticity over perfection.” Governor Ugwuanyi is not perfect but what marks him off is his impeccable and undeterred burning zest to better the lives of the common man and woman in Enugu State. You know that desire to leave a lasting legacy you find in him, that is the true unrefined leadership charisma. God bless the Priest in Politics, the development garlore Governor of Enugu State.
