Leadership in the real sense of it, is not a mere title, tag or nomenclature, but through actions and inactions of the said leader as he shows the way to peace, unity, love and progress.
True leadership is demonstrated by selfless sacrifice with sense of equity, fairness and justice both in tick and tin. It is an attitude seamlessly expressed by one’s character and lifestyle genuinely without hypocrisy or in view of any consideration.
Leadership is a calling and Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi is an ordained priest in this ministry. Those who know the Governor from childhood have testified that those virtues that make for an ideal leadership which he exhibits on daily basis, are what he was doing while growing up. Meaning that he did not just learn to be humble, peaceful, loving, caring, civil, coutious, dedicated, committed, faithful, competent, responsible, reasonable, respectful courageous and godly when he became a member of House of Reps nor as a Governor of Enugu State. What it means is that these virtues are inborn hence he seamlessly exhibits them with ease devoid of any form of pretence or expectation.
I am joining folks who have praised this People’s governor with the way he has stabilized People’s Democratic Party (PDP), going by the recommendation of his led zoning committee for the party offices. The adoption of his committee recommendation by NEC of the party, and the way PDP has remained calm, peaceful and united, showed Ugwuanyi’s gift in bringing peace in every atmosphere of crisis where he found himself.
It is on record that we have had the era where past governors of our dear State Enugu, had protracted quarrels and infighting with their fellow politicians in the state but immediately Ugwuanyi came in as governor he reconciled all the political actors in the state, which is not a mere feat. I stand to be corrected that Enugu became the most peaceful state in Nigeria courtesy of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s pragmatic and purposeful leadership achored on equity, fairness and justice; the mother of peace, love, unity and progress.
Governor Ugwuanyi did not only reconcile all political gladiators who were fighting themselves dirty, but went further to resolve all community crisis in the state for which Oruku and Umuode’s perennial communal crisis was one of few such examples.
His crisis managerial savvy has contributed tremendously in fostering peace in herders and farmers clashes in the state till he signed the Anti Open Grazing law as the result of the desire of the good people of Enugu State who uninamously chose him as their governor and leader two term still running.
It is also my humble opinion that if we had a situation where Governor Ugwuanyi were in charge of South East region administratively, the issue of IPOB wouldn’t have degenerated to it’s proscription abinitio. His ability to broker peace in a most controversial/contentious situations would have brought the IPOB and the Federal Government face off to a more win win situation than what we presently have today.
I am also of the view that the leadership example of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is what Nigeria seriously needs now. This Governor is that type of father that listens and hears the complaints of all his children and devices means of treating every issue of concern with human face. Ugwuanyi is that leader like a father who feels the pains of his children, the people he leads with deep love and compassion. He is like water, Ugwuanyi maintains the Bible injunction by leaving in peace with all that crosses his path as much as it lies in him.
And that is why I feel that the approach of President Buhari led APC government towards the agitations of his children like that of IPOB, is a far cry to peace, unity and progress of our dear country, Nigeria.
Hence, Nigeria needs an Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s leadership method of PEACE, PEACE and PEACE as we approach 2023 general elections if we must continue as one indivisible entity called Nigeria . Today in Nigeria, it is unfortunate that there are discordant tones everywhere, from the presidency, to some of our Southeast Governors, with many of them employing hate speech against the masses who are simply protesting against hunger, oppression, intimidation, suppression and killings meted to them in most malicious manner. This is a height of wickedness without conscience from these crops of leaders who now see their people as subhuman!
Nigeria today is bleeding profusely and therefore needs a leader who has a healing gift in peace building mechanisms like Dr. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi for the total healing of all the regions of Nigeria and put our country on the path of greatness where the true giant of Africa in us will be fully manifested.
Therefore, for peace, security, unity and progress of Nigeria I stand with Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi #gburugburu come 2023 as the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria so help me God, amen.
